Depression is caused by many things, and media plays a huge part in how much teenagers are affected by it.
It is a major issues in our society today and is only getting worse.
Imagine the feeling of emptiness that overcame him, the feeling that nothing matters anymore.
He sat there in class, blank-faced, holding in all the emotions, and coming to the worse conclusion. People were texting him, direct messaging him, telling him that he should just kill himself because he is nothing without the cheer captain on his arm now (Witmer).
When you think about it, it is really sad, even pathetic that someone could ever stoop so low and make someone - who most likely did nothing to them - want to kill him or herself, or go through with it.
However, the majority of teens will sit and laugh, joke about it, and make fun of it.Suicide is the third leading cause for deaths amongst ages 15 through 25, which broadens the spectrum.One could commit suicide due to depression, a major loss, anxiety, being tormented or harassed, etc.There is only one possible reason as to why there was such a large increase in the depression rate.In 1988, technology started improving rapidly for the following fifteen years, and has not slowed down since.Teenagers that are depressed tend to try to spend twice the average amount of time on social media or watching television (Strasburger).They also leave the house less, may have an increase or decrease in appetite, and do not enjoy things that they use to (Strasburger).The use of antidepressants attempting to treat a major depressive disorder have increased four hundred percent since 1988, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (Nauert).There is more than 1 in 10 Americans over age 12 that now takes an antidepressant (Suicide).During most assemblies, a teenager’s parents will come and and speak about their child committing suicide due to being cyberbullied.That teen is dead, and is no longer here due to the hateful words of another human being.
